Vintage Cigars Brought Back To Life By Habanos

Here is some good news for vintage cigar lovers. The renowned company Habanos S.A. has given life back to two vintage cigars. Cigar Aficionado has this report:

Volume 8 of the Habanos Collection is dedicated to Cohiba. The book-shaped wooden case contains 20 Cohiba Sublimes Extras, an uncommonly large, unique size rolled especially for this release. At 7 1/4 inches by 54 ring gauge, the Sublimes Extra falls somewhere between the 6 1/2 by 54 ring Cohiba Sublimes Edición Limitada of 2004 and the 7 1/2 by 52 ring Cohiba Behike. Either way, the Sublimes Extra is a thick cigar in keeping with the large ring gauges of previous Habanos Collections.

For its Antique Humidor release, Habanos brought back the Romeo y Julieta Romeo (pictured), a 6 3/8 by 52 ring double figurado tapered at both ends. The size was discontinued in the 1970s but temporarily revived for the 125th Anniversary commemorative humidor created in 2000. This year’s Antique Humidor was crafted out of cedar and mahogany by Cuban goldsmith Ernesto Aguilera, who also created the Antique Humidors of 2006 and 2007. Each Antique Humidor holds 50 cigars.

As I was reading the news, I could already feel a thrill of excitement running through my spine. Then I was brought back to reality – how much are these babies going to cost? The post did not mention anything about the price and I was not able to find anything else about that. Maybe there is someone out there who could enlighten us?

Chocolate Cigars From Italy

Mobsters and cigars – they’re certainly a good match in the eyes of many. The mob and Italy – still another match. How about chocolate and cigars? Hmm, now I find that really interesting! If you think the way I do, then you would be very interested in the latest cigars to come out of the country that is shaped like a boot.

Toscanello Aroma Fondente is the latest cigar that would probably have cigar enthusiasts clamoring for more. This cigar is conical in shape and is half-sized. It is the color of chocolate, has the smell of chocolate, AND has the taste of this wonderful food as well! The maker of this cigar is world renowned Manifatture Sigaro Toscano. Name ring a bell? Well, they are only the cigar manufacturer that made the classic Italian cigars that Clint Eastwood smoked in his western movies!

The dark-chocolate-flavored Toscanello, which is 78 mm (3 inches) long and 14.5 mm (roughly a half inch) wide at its base, appeals to what Saccotelli called “dual smokers,” adults between the ages of 25 and 35 who alternate between cigars and cigarettes.

Despite their smaller size, Toscanellos are considered cigars in Italy. Italians have smoked them since 1948, when budget-conscious post-war consumers decided half a smoke was better than none.
Today, a pack of five chocolate-flavored Toscanellos cost about 4 euros ($5.44).

Here’s the bad news, though. These cigars are only currently being marketed in Italy. That means you cannot have them unless you know someone from there or you go there personally. You can try online, though, and see if someone is selling a pack.
